Impressed by the simplicity of the glasses and fun I had using them I decided to make my own version. See the original here; https://www.google.com/get/cardboard/
There is not a lot to say about the 'build' but here it goes:
I initially wanted to use 2mm MDF as I like to work with that. So I created a set of drawings and went to my favourite wood shop. Unfortunately they did not have any 2mm MDF, so instead I got some 2mm triplex.
This resulted in a couple advantages; The triples is lighter than MDF, it's nicer to look at, it is more robust.
The box is glued with good wood glue. The lenses are press fed in the holes, I will probably fix them with a small drop of hot glue later. The lens holder is currently also just glued with hot glue, I want to be able to make a few adjustments (for the focus) I have finished it off with a couple of layers of varnish to give it a smoother surface.
In my version I have also given a little more room for the nose, the original really starts to hurt after a few minutes use.
The weight ended up to be more or less the same as the cardboard version.

| I also reused the NFC tag. Haven't found any Apps that use it yet, but it was easy to transfer. On this photo you can also see a little of the padding. This both holds the phone in the right place and protects the phone at the same time. |
